I too, was that little girl that loved and longed for horses, but I had to satisfy my longing with Breyer horses.  When I married my high school sweetheart it looked like I would have to continue my life without horses.  My husband always said we could not afford horses and that having them meant we would never be able to go anywhere.  So I just resigned myself to a horseless life.  When I was 44, we sold the engineering company that my husband and I had formed and we both retired.  We then purchased an old farm.  My husband casually mentioned that I could have horses if I wanted.  I jumped at the chance.  I began taking lessons and horse shopping.  A year later, I purchased Tag, a homely, been there, done that, 15-year-old Appaloosa.  At the same time my husband bought a very striking 15-year-old Quarter Horse named Kirby.  Within weeks of bringing them home to the farm, Kirby bucked my husband off and broke his ribs.   Kirby promptly went back to his former owner and my husband washed his hands of riding.  Meantime, my neighbor was hauling Tag and me to lessons.  At one of those lessons a dirty Palomino Quarter horse was brought in for sale.  I rode him and (much to my husband’s dismay) took him home to try for two week.  (You know the… “Tag needs a buddy story”.  Well Rocky, as we named him, (or Rocket depending on the day) ended up staying and slowly became my main ride.  Three years and seven unscheduled dismounts later, Rocky and I are now a team and Rocky has become an awesome trail horse.  Last year we bought a trailer and now are ready to travel.  RHPC sounds like a wonderful organization ideal for Rocky and I to continue our learning together.  We're both looking forward to some fun happenings!
