I wanted a horse from the time I was a little girl. Like many people on the farm, my father did not believe in having an animal that did not pay for itself. So all I had to ride was my old cow, daisy. When I was 5, my father sold the farm and moved my little brother, older sister, my mom and myself to California to work at Boeing. We lived there for only a year because my mom was so home sick. When we moved back to Indiana, my father tried to buy back the old family farm but we had to move to town because the man who then owned it would not sell. I knew my chance of ever getting a horse was lost forever -- at least that is the way it seemed to a little girl of seven.
I did have a cousin that would let me ride her family’s horses but the owner was a horse trader -- and everyone knows that horse traders never keep horses more than a week. It seemed to me, at least, that I could never ride the same horse twice.
I finally get my own horse when I was 21. It was a beautiful Appaloosa mare names Goodie Two Shoe. She was my best friend. She was someone I could always go to when things got bad, until one day I had to sell her because of a divorce.
I quit riding for years until one day a friend who know how much I loved horses talked me into getting back into it. Thank God for friends. Now I have three horses: two paints (Sweetie and Mandy) and a Morgan named Baby doll. It is funny how quickly an animal can turn into your best friend
I have a full-time job that, unfortunately, takes too much of my time, but I would like to get involved with RHPC as much as I can. Just let me know what needs to be done and I will try to help.
I particularly look forward to meeting older members around the Greencastle who might be willing to help me learn the ropes. I am really looking forward to having fun with the club and I hope to get to know everyone better.
