II have loved animals my whole life but, truthfully, I only “liked” to ride horses -- my sister was the "horse crazy" one. I did ride horses on vacations and at stables quite a bit, but I never thought I would own one. In 2000, I went to a stable/trail ride place just for fun ended up cantering several times and I couldn't wait to go back. After several years of doing this every chance I got I ended up being "horse crazy" just like my sister. On my 50th birthday, I rescued a horse who probably wouldn't have made it through that winter. On my first ride on my very own horse, he got spooked and galloped (at least 1/2 mile) back to the barn at full speed! Six months later I still couldn't tack up my horse myself and I bought another one!
This "perfect" calm, gentle mare - became a wild thing. Even a horse trainer could not get her to respond after 45 minutes in 90 degree weather! So... after not being able to sell her and being totally intimidated by her, I had no choice but to work with her using Parelli methods. It has not been easy because I was scared of her. Then one day she and I experienced an "aha" moment and things turned completely around. Although she still is not a horse for a novice like me, I totally love her. She and I have come a long way together. While I still consider myself a beginner, my goals for this summer are to trail ride with her, find a good home for my rescued horse, and to keep on learning.
In the spring of 2007 I found my rescued horse a good home and I sold Peanut. I then found my dream horse Denver who is definitely The right horse for me. My dreams of trail riding have come true and recently Denver and I qualified to ride in a parade. I look forward to wonderful trail rides and parades with This wonderful group of red hat purple chaps ladies.
