  Barbara Kendall

I am Barbara Kendall. I am retired now and live in Paragon, Indiana. I was born in Columbus, Indiana and became interested in horses at about age 10. At age 13 my family moved to Chicago. I have always been interested in horses and western movies. I belonged to my high school riding club my sophomore year in Chicago and we rode from a stable near the Forest Preserve. In my late twenties I got my first horse, a marbled blue roan Appaloosa. A measure of my interest in horses is that I had to give up smoking at that point as I couldn’t afford cigarettes, but I kept my horse. My next horse was a quarter horse followed by my first Arabian. Now I have 3 Arabians of the same family.

I got interested in trail riding in the Colorado Mountains. My horse took me places with beautiful scenery that hiking or driving couldn’t go. When I relocated back to Indiana, my older sister took me to the Horsemen’s Campground in Brown County State Park. I wanted to go horse camping after that. I just enjoy being around horses and riding in the wilderness. Sometimes I have coffee in the barn and watch the horses.

I enjoy everything about horses: trail rides, horse shows, even horse stories. I really enjoy the company of other women when horses are involved, joking and laughing as we go along on trail rides.

I am single with no children. I have two sisters, two brothers. Besides horses, I like auctions, fairs, festivals, cooking, and music and short trip outings.
