I begged for a pony from the time I was about 6. Unfortunately, my family, while we lived in Indianapolis and California, lived in smaller homes where I could have no horses. That, however, did not stop me from drawing pictures of horses – including in my school books. I am afraid, I got in trouble for that.

When we moved back to Indy, there was a riding stable on Southeastern Ave.(Silver Hills). My mother, knowing my fascination with horses, on rare occasions, would take me there to ride as a teen. As soon as I graduated from high school, I got a job and started making payments on a horse and his board. I liked to ride at the stable. The horse I bought was a 16 h. palomino named “Topper”.

I have been married to my husband Jim for 44 years. When we got married Topper was part of the deal. We had Topper for several years. He was a great ride and a great babysitter for the kids.

Since Topper, we have lived in several places and had a number of horses. In 1977 bought 10 acres between Pittsboro and Danville where we now live, but it has been some time since we have had a horse I can ride.

With our 3 children grown and gone with children and even grand children of their own, we are enjoying our “empty nest” days. Jim is retired from American Airlines and I am an artist working part time in an art gallery. In November of 08, we purchased “Felix” a Palomino quarter horse, and we are considering getting another horse now. I am looking forward to the coming years with horses and the RHPC ladies.
