To the RHPC ladies,
Thank you all so much for allowing me the trophy for “Horsewoman of the Year”. I consider it an honor to be a RH&PC member.
I admire all of you a lot; it takes courage to do what you’re doing. I have ridden horses all my life and have raised and trained horses the last 53 years. I know the danger of them as well as the fun. I was riding mustangs in Nevada at 5 years old plus our milk cow. I always had access to horses although never owned one until I moved to Indiana. I spent my young years on ranches in Nevada and New Mexico where I learned to herd cows and rope. I rode barrel horses in Utah and Colorado. Worked on a (dude) ranch in Manco, Colorado, learned how to shoe horses there as well as ride Hollywood spoiled horses. Had a couple horses that liked to run off with their riders and my job was to break them of their bad habits, I was fortunate to get some good runs in while doing so.
I moved to Indiana in 1955 and Bill had a saddle bred gelding, I turned him into a cow horse, then went into the horse business as soon as my girls were 6 and 7 yrs. old, started training ponies for them to show took us a year to get our first blue ribbon there was no stopping them. We showed small shows every weekend all summer until they were through High School.
You ladies are smart enough to get help from the experts. Thanks again for allowing me to be part of your club.
