  Janet Corbin

My name is Janet Corbin.

Ever since I can remember, I have had a love for horses. As a child, I was always drawing pictures of horses and saving any object of any kind that had to do with horses. However, being a city girl by birth really got in the way of this country girls dreams! It was not until about 8 years ago that I finally got the opportunity to own my first horse.

My husband had been a career serviceman in the Air Force.  For 16 years I followed him here and there and everywhere else.  But when he retired in 1995 I stood my ground.  I decided that since I had followed him for 16 years, it was time for him to follow my dream of owning a some land and a horse.  Little did he know what I was getting him into and God bless him for his patience and understanding.  Without him, I would be still dreaming.

My mother and stepfather had 2 horses, an Arabian mare and her foal.  She gave them to me to care for and use on my property. We kept them for about a year, at which time they decided to give them to me permanently. Since then, I have had up to 7 horses at one time.

Currently I have 6 horses, 4 Tennessee Walkers, 1 Arabian and 1 Grade pony -- which I hope to make a barrel pony for some lucky 4-H'er.  My 18 year old Walker gelding (Hammer) is the best horse ever I will ever own. He taught me how to ride and has always taken care of me wherever we go. He is the type of horse that can be ridden by anyone. I hope to have him for a long time.

Just over 3 years ago, while taking English riding lessons to improve my skills in the saddle, I took a nasty fall from a friend’s horse and broke my back. I spent 3 months in a back brace, doing everything my Doctor said from no riding to not lifting anything more than a gallon of milk (8 lbs). With the help and support of my family I finally healed, and a year after the fall all was well (no surgery) and my love for horses is unshaken. I couldn't wait to get back into the saddle and I enjoy each and every moment I'm there.

Recently, my friend Angela and I have tried a breeding program. We are breeding Arabian mares with Friesian stallions to get Friesian Sport Horses. Unfortunately, our first attempts have been unsuccessful. My mare isn't taking well. So, now we need a new Arabian or a TB to complete our breeding program. Wish me luck!

I am so grateful to have found an organization of women who share my passion for horses and who love to ride as much as I do. I hope to share many years of riding with my new sisters.

Hope to see you on the trail soon!
