I am an Indiana girl. I was born in Vigo County; attended Purdue University; worked at Winona Hospital; was a flight instructor; got married and divorced; worked as an Air Traffic Controller. At the age of 36 my life seemed normal enough but that was about to change. A friend and I were driving down the road and passed a pasture full of horses. We started talking about how when we were young we had always wanted a horse. I could count on one hand the number of times that I had been on a horse, but still, I had that desire. After further discussion, we looked at each other and said "Why not?" Since then, my life has been full of sawdust and the smell of fly spray.
We found our horses after some searching, made arrangements with a boarding stable and the learning process began. Fortunately, a young man named Michael Castonia worked at the stable. Michael has taught me a great deal over the years. He has probably kept me from seriously injuring myself. One of the things I learned was that inexperience was not my only problem: my horse had multiple personalities. Within the first year, I got a different horse -- Fury's Gold Gal -- a 12-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse. Fury bore 3 foals while I had her. I still have two of Fury’s offspring as well as a grandson.
In 1989, I moved from Marion County to Hendricks County, where I still reside. We bought two more mares and starting breeding. Unfortunately, I started falling in love with all the babies. This is NOT a good business practice!! Therefore, we stopped.
I have shown for a number of years and have done some trail riding. I enjoyed, in particular, showing the babies and was fairly successful at it. My one major camping trip was to Golden Hills in Missouri.
We now have seven horses, ranging in age from 5 to about 32. I cannot
imagine my life without horses -- the most magnificent of animals.
