Only a few spots left in the April 16 Spring Fling clinic. Reminder that you need one despook clinic and one formation riding clinic to qualify for parades. We only have April 16 and May 15 at Edinburg for qualfying before early parade season. Let me know if you are going to be in parades if you want in a clinic. Most of you have qualified already. This summer's parades should be getting you experienced for the 500 parade next year. The parade schedule is on the website. Start with little parades and work your way up. Get your experience this summer. Contact Peg Carson for information about parades and the 500 parade.
June 4 will be an obstacle clinic at JWs to get you ready for the ACTHA RHPC ride at Debbie Wallace's ranch in Martinsville. I am making some obstacles so :))) and bear it but enjoy them. I got some ideas from the Road to the Horse competition between Clinton Anderson, Parelli and Chris Cox.
July- Carol Scott is organizing another clinic with Wayne Albright. Email me if you would like to be listed in it.
August 13 will be a clinic with Michaela Walker. Email me kkh923@aol.com if you want to be listed in it.
Sept 10 will be a qualifying clinic at JWs to get ready for fall parades.
October 8 will be a qualifying clinic and is right before the Martinsville parade.
However, DO NOT WAIT. THESE CLINICS FILL UP FAST. We have been having people sign up and then not show so it will be first ladies to have their checks to Arlene Smoot at 2532 West 200 South, Danville, IN 46122 and listed with me at kkh923@aol.com who will be on the clinic lists.
We are having so much fun in the clinics, doing formation and drill maneuvers and getting our horses calm for the trail riding. Plus visiting during the PITCH INS. (Thanks to Arlene)

Let's all get our RHPC gear on and put on a great Parade for these folks. It was a huge hit last year and they are anxiously awaiting our return. You don't even need to bring a horse/mini---just get glitzed up in your wildest RHPC outfit and walk the short parade route.
Hope to see a bunch of you there !!!
We have been invited to the Benton Harbor Michigan Blossomtime Grand Floral Parade. This is a very old parade for the region, quite steeped in history. This will the 105th year. The Indianapolis Motorcycle Drill Team leads the parade. This is a judged parade for floats only and there is no entry fee. The parade route is 2.5 miles long. They are very excited to have us and are looking forward to us being there.
DATE: Saturday,May 7th
We need at least 6 riders and as many minis as want to participate. We need at least 2 side walkers, more if possible. And a pooper scooper. Side walkers will help with crossing the open grate steel bridges, which could give the horses a little hesitation. I feel if we have strong horses in the lead the rest will follow. The parade coordinator is also considering buying mats for the bridges since they have had other horse groups pull out for this reason. But I won't know for certain until later.
We can not hand out roses, nor can we have the truck with music. Convertibles only for this parade unless it is an antique auto.
STAGING: We must be in staging at 10:30 am. The parade steps off at 1:00 pm. After the horses are tacked and ready trucks/trailers will be moved to the end of the parade route and the Sheriff's Department will give us a ride back to the staging area.
PUBLICITY : This is a televised parade by the local NBC affiliate from South Bend, WNDU Channel 16. It is also broadcast on the local radio station WSJM in Benton Harbor. Spectators are estimated at 200,000 to 250,000. There are an average of 115 units in the parade each year.
THEME: This years theme is "Blossomtime Celebrates Classic TV".
DEADLINE: Sign up deadline is March 1st. I will receive our notification of acceptance by March 21st. The staging/destaging information and unit number along with maps, etc. will be sent to me by April 11th.
COORDINATION: It would be best to buddy up in the trailers if possible, that way we don't have an many units to move to the end of the parade. Jane Howard will be coordinating this since she knows where most of you are coming from.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The parade is a litte over an hour from my place. Anyone wanting to come to my place the night before is welcome. I can accommodate 3 or 4 horses and have room for trucks and trailers in the yard. I have one spare bedroom and two fulls baths. I have electric in the barn, but not sure how many trailers I can provide electric to without overloading.
You are welcome to stay Saturday night as well and trail ride at Potato Creek on Sunday or York Hills. Both are also about an hour from my place, just one is west and the other south. If you are taking US 31 Potato Creek would be on your way. I know you ride Deem Lake after Pegasus perhaps if anyone wanted to trail ride Potato Creek you could come up Thursday and make it a nice riding weekend.
QUESTIONS: please email me at saevans4212@yahoo.com or call my cell at 574-849-6030.
SIGNUP: please let me know who would like to participate so I can start a list.
Ladies PLEASE, PLEASE let's do this parade with lots of riders and minis and show this region what Red Hats and Purple Chaps is all about. I can't help but believe this will definitely increase interest and membership. I'm sure we will be treated great and it would be great to be asked back next year.
Thanks,
Shirley Evans

REMINGTON WATER TOWER DAYS PARADE
Date: Saturday, June 11
Location: Remington, Indiana
Time of Parade Judging Line Up: 12:30pm
Time of Parade Start: 2:00pm
Staging Location: to be emailed shortly (was in a large parking lot last year, probably the same this year but I am verifying with parade coordinator)
Directions to Remington: will be emailed shortly
Parade Dress:
Red shirts/sparkly vests/purple chaps or purple jeans - or go as a "just for fun"
Equine Tack: Riders: red bridle/red&purple reins/red breast collar
Leading: red & purple theme
Parade Theme: Water Tower Days --- Basically glitz the equines to the max
This will be a great starter parade in that it is in the small town of Remington about 30 miles northwest of Lafayette. The parade consists of all kinds of parade entries from vehicles, tractors, fire trucks, bands, floats, walking units, in addition to the equestrian units. It will also be a great exercise for our parade horses in that the judging begins at 12:30 and there is a wait until the actual parade start at 2:00. During that wait time, we can utilize our time to practice some boot-to-boot and formation riding. We can also eat some lunch or snacks if we haven't had a chance to eat prior to the judging. The parade route takes us through the streets of the town and has a great crowd. It is also a judged parade and RHPC won first place last year in the equestrian division with an awesome unit of our famous Smootmobile, an energetic group of walkers and TWO horses/riders that were RHPC "glitzed" to the max ! proving that quality in our presentation is what counts (and a big thank you to last year's participants for a super job !)
I am aware that this is the same date as the ACTHA ride, so those of you that have already committed to ACTHA please follow through with that commitment!!!
Those of you interested in doing the Remington Parade please email me at rafftajean@aol.com . I will email the staging location and specific directions shortly.
Thanks to all,
Peg Carson

We are getting ready for the Strassenfest Parade which is next Sunday Aug 7, 2011. We are #44 in the line up out of 108 entries. If we are at the staging area at 11:30pm that will give us plenty of time before the lineup starts to get our horses/us ready. We are to be inline at 12:30pm with the parade starting at 1:00pm. We are being staged in the same area as last year. It is at Gutzweiler Park. Nice big grassy area with water available for the horses. We will have signs on the highway directing anyone that will be coming that day.
Attire: Due to the heat we will be wearing white shirts with the Red Hat scarf, no vest. Shirts need to have short sleeves, no tank tops or sleeveless please. Purple chaps/pants.

September 2, 3, 4, 5 Midwest Trail's Labor Day Ride
Contact Sue Vinyard svin@global.net
Date: Saturday, September 3rd
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Time of parade START: 1:00
Time of parade LINE UP: 12:30
Time we need to move out the trailers: 12:00
Time you need to arrive in staging: absolutely no later than 11:30
You need to get there earlier if possible, so you can get your horse and yourself ready before your trailer has to leave
If you do not have a driver for your trailer, one of the walkers will hold your horse until you return from the trailer parking area. We have 2 vehicles which will transport the trailer drivers that need to return to staging.
Parade Staging Location: In the Academy Lot --- enter at East Troy St onto South East St (map attached)
I will mail a Parade Vehicle Pass to each of you.
We are we are in Division 6 ! If you have a problem the Staging Official's phone number is listed on the lower left corner of the MAP and his name is CORY, The number is 317-850-0227. If you do not get an answer, call MY CELL PHONE 765-491-3227.
Equine decor: Red bridle & breast collar & red/purple reins. Red rope halter either over or under the bridle. This is the new safety rule we have put in place for this year. I am adding the use of the halters into the Announcer's script, so be sure to have one on your horse. (This only applies to the horses) If you don't have a red halter, use what ever color you have.
Since this parade is a solemn tribute to the 9/11 tragedy, I think it would be a nice touch to put some red/white/blue bow or something on the breast collars. I have some that I will bring with me, if you don't have any. I also think a yellow ribbon along with the red/white/blue for our soldiers would be a nice touch. I also have some yellow ribbon. The rest of the equine decor is the "glitz to the max" with glitter, ribbons, roses, beads---whatever you usually do (and always do it so WELL !!!) in our red and purple combinations.
Human costume: Again because of the solemn and dignified theme of the parade, I'd like to do it in the long sleeve red shirts with the purple sparkly vests. HOWEVER !!! If it's going to be ninety degrees, we're not going to try to kill ourselves, so we will go with the red RHPC t-shirts. Right now, the weatherman isn't predicting the weather that far in advance. For now, let's just wait a few days before we make the human outfit decision. We want to make our unit's presentation appropriate to the occasion especially since there will be the re-broadcast of the Miracle Mile Parade in the SPECIAL BROADCAST on TV Channel 13 Sunday September 11th aired at 11:00 in commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Not only will we be performing for the live spectators at the actual parade (which is also televised on live TV) but there will be a whole bunch more people who will see us again in the commemorative program.
The moving of the trailers: The trailers will move out of the Staging Area at 12:00 and will move all at one time. I am going to try to get us a police escort to move us quickly but don't have that nailed down yet. For those of you who do not have a driver for your trailer, if possible, please see if you can get someone. If you can't get someone, it's OK. The drivers of the other trailers will be in the lot with the trailers and will keep an eye on your trailer. For those of you who have done this parade previously, the moving of the trailers to the end of the parade route is definitely preferable than what we did in past years, which was riding the horses back to staging along a 4-lane very busy Indinapolis street with vehicle traffic in the other lanes. NOT A PRETTY PICTURE ! and a totally exhausting trip for everyone.
Route to the lot for the trailers: I will go over the route we will take to this area with the trailer drivers in the Staging area. We will need to leave the Staging area at 12:00 sharp because they will begin getting the bands and some of the floats onto the side streets shortly after 12:00. Not only do we need to move the trailers but our vehicles with the drivers that need to return to Staging have to be able to get back there.
If you have any questions, please call me at my home 765-538-2853 or on my cell 765-491-3227. We are working in the garden during the day and I don't get onto the computer until late. Calling is the best way to get a quick answer. Thank you to all of you for your participation in this historic event.

The Persimmon Festival Parade is this Saturday Sept. 24th in Mitchell In. We need to arrive at the parade staging area no later then 11:45am. Parade will begin at 1:45pm. The parade will move at a "fast walk". Looks like the weather is going to be beautiful.
Just found out that the only judging of this parade will be commercial floats. Last year there were 140 entries in the parade. We are #29 in the lineup.
Signs directing you to the parade staging area will be on both highways leading into Mitchell. Please follow the signs. The parade will end at a different place then it starts. They will help us move the trailers before the parade starts or we can chose to ride back to the start. That is up to us and we can decide that on Sat. The whole parade is 17 blocks long.
Parade Attire: Show shirts (Jane Howard is bringing) purple chaps/pants, red hats. Decorate your horse as festive as you wish.

Hello ladies,
I am back from out west at the Red Rock Ride and had one terrific good time. Now to get you and your horse ready for the Martinsville parade. I like this one as I can bring all my spooky items I have collected over the years while my boys were growing up plus some that I have picked up just for fun. LOL
The despook session will start at 10 a.m. for $20. Arlene will not be there so send your check to her ASAP as I will be busy and don't want to collect the clinic money. This session will be good for new members AND all of you in the parade to get your horse tuned up. Wish I had a way of simulating the Ferris wheel. I have asked the evil witch of the west to help me conduct the clinic. She gave me a frightfully screechy YEEESSS!!!
There will be a BYO luncheon in the shelter house around noon. I will bring cider for all of you. We will have introductions during this time.
The formation riding session will start around 1:30 for $20 also. We will work on getting our horses accustom to riding side by side, riding with flags, and some fun maneuvers. The ladies in the last clinic were looking really spiffy doing the maneuvers. Remind me to have you go outside the arena and around the barn.
You need to pass one despook clinic and one formation clinic to be in parades. Safety is our goal. But remember, horses are different every day and it is your responsibility to know if your horse will be safe for the parade that day. Hopefully they will be cooperative for you and and new situations.
To register, email me at kkh923@aol.com that you want to be in clinic and send check to Arlene Smoot, 2532 West Co Rd 200 South, Danville, IN 46122.

Dress will be formal, as a video will be made for upcoming parades in 2012, so look spiffy. Decorate with all the red and purple you want. Horses hoofs to be sparkly red. (Sparkle paint in trailer.) Front row will wear parade dress shirts. The rest of the paraders please wear reversible vests. (There are a few in the parade trailer.)
